"A Lamp to My Feet" Devotional by Pastor Dennis Whitmore

"A Lamp to My Feet"

A Daily Point to Ponder from the Bible

by Pastor Dennis Whitmore

When you're in a valley, it's hard to see anything that's over the wall.  If the obstacle is a mountain before you, it's hard to imagine being out of the valley and over on the other side.

"My soul melts from heaviness:
Strengthen me according to Your Word.
Remove from me the way of lying,
And grant me your Law graciously.
I have chosen the way of truth;
Your judgments I have laid before me."
Psalm 119:28-30

The line that jumps out to me is: "Remove me from the way of lying.  You probably skip right past that one; you're not a liar.  Right?  Can't be you.  Take a long look at this whole passage again.  The way of lying is only known to you and the Lord.  Because it's been your way.  If you are open to Him, the Holy Spirit will reveal to you the way you've been lying to yourself.

If God has blessed you with spiritually discerning friends, He will often use them to speak a word to you about something you need to reflect on.  Be careful to avoid a defensive posture; especially if you feel offending by what someone said to you.  Even if the person is offensively blunt, or what they said it totally off, listen for the still small voice of the Lord in the midst of that exchange.  Get yourself out of the way and see what God is trying to show you; perhaps He's been trying to show you something you need to face about you.  Then go to His Word and listen.

"I cling to Your testimonies:
O Lord, do not put me to shame!
I will run the course of your commandments,
For You shall enlarge my heart"
Psalm 119:31-32

God will increase your heart's capacity to understand and embrace greater truth.  As you humbly come to Him with the desire to know it and the willingness to surrender to it, you will understand things in a way in a way you hadn't understood before.

Be ready to be blessed today,
